05.16 MERCH DROP :)
SPV artist collab series, Mayoral debate, and candidates we WON'T be ranking.
We are so excited to bring you Merch! We collab’d with artist Justin Hager on our very first Soft Power Vote t-shirts!
Justin Hager is a self-taught artist living and working in NYC. His work draws from nostalgic cult figures from pop-culture. We are excited to share the first of three artist collabs in an effort to generate awareness and excitement about the June Primary (pssst, it’s June 22nd!).
T-shirts are $38* and will go to supporting the Soft Power Vote initiative. This is a limited run! Please venmo @softpowervote with your size. *Not including shipping.
Also, did you watch the first mayoral debate? Let’s remind ourselves that just because these candidates are running as DEMs doesn’t mean they’re at all progressive. More below about who we WON’T be ranking. . . y’all already know Dianne Morales and Maya Wiley are our #1 and #2.
Wanna put something on our radar?

SOFT POWER VOTE
Missed the first NYC mayoral debate? Don’t worry, you can watch it here!
Some highlights:
Dianne Morales crushed it, addressing “the systems not the symptoms,” lifting up Black Trans Women and decriminalizing sex work.
Maya Wiley had some great moments speaking to some actual plans (she sometimes talks in circles so was refreshing) and got in some very good jabs about stop-and-frisk to Eric Adams.
Yang and Garcia, in addition to wanting to increase police presence on the subway, also want to keep the SHSAT admission test which has been a major factor in school segregation.
Eric Adams was pressed by Dianne Morales to address his deliberate erasure of Black and Brown organizers from the #Defund movement to which Adams lied and made up the phony “disband” movement...WTF?
Need more reasons not to rank Andrew Yang, Eric Adams, Shaun Donovan, Ray Mcguire and Kathryn Garcia? Here are a few:
The NY Post endorses Eric Adams shortly after Tucker Carlson did the same. Adams denounced Carlson’s endorsement for his racism, yet doesn’t seem to mind that the NY Post endorsed Trump in 2020. Also, Adams is corrupt.
Shaun Obama (oops Donovan), who was Secretary of HUD for Obama, along with noted rich guy Ray Mcguire both believe that housing in BK is in the $80k-100k range **spits coffee emoji** We’ll never get affordable housing if we elect leaders who are so out of touch with reality that they don’t realize housing is not affordable.
Kathryn Garcia gets the big NYT endorsement (it should be noted that the NYT endorsed 2 people for president when we could only choose 1, but endorses only 1 when we are able to rank 5) for her “competent practical progressivism” which later on in the week on Brian Lehrer means she won’t defund/reallocate/reduce the NYPD budget at all. She is, in fact, very conservative. Please do not rank her.
